Where can I see WOODLAND furniture "live"?

Do you live far away from our German showroom near Duesseldorf and Cologne but still like to see our product "live"?

WOODLAND has set up a reference service for you, where you can visit a friendly WOODLAND partner family and see your desired product. We have reference families in UK, USA and other countries. Just give us a call and we will set up a day to visit your reference family close to you!

Why is WOODLAND furniture available only by mail order and not through furniture dealers?

The reason is simple: WOODLAND would lose its lucrative price cost relationship if it worked through dealers, which in the interest of our customers we do not want.

Therefore we think that WOODLAND as the manufacturer can best help the customer by entering into a direct customer relationship where we can provide the optimum assistance to meet the customers needs. In the advice phase we can explain the best about our products and services. Also we could provide you with drawings when your bed needs to bed customised.

The direct customer dialogue is the main reason that many ideas were developed and because we listen to our customers WOODLAND has gained greater status and popularity.
Mail order customers can see the products "live" through WOODLANDs reference service and this gives them the opportunity to see the product in use and gain valuable advice from the friendly reference family.

Can I get WOODLAND beds in special measurements?

Yes. We regularly produce customised furniture at a reasonable price. Simply tell us what you would like and if possible send us a sketch. You will promptly get an offer from WOODLAND with respect to your increased or decreased measurements. The same goes for the mattresses.

Individual adjustments for sloping roofs in childrens rooms are no problem. However make the enquiries as exact as possible (e.g. by sketch), therefore we can use this to fulfill all your needs. You can contact us on the following number: 02133-2482-19 or -10. For further information on special finishes contact "service".

At which age is the WOODLAND bed suitable for my child?

The WOODLAND furniture combination can be adapted for the use of every child at every age.

As the first manufacturer to develop a highly adaptable bunk bed, WOODLAND produced the WINNIPEG which is suitable for children in their first year of life. By using different heights of the sleeping levels, the bed can always be adapted to suit the physical and mental capabilities of a child.

However if you don´t want to begin with a WINNIPEG bunk bed you can use a LULLEBY during your childs first year of life, the ALABAMA baby frame bed can also be your first option into the furniture system.

Why is a sloping ladder not suitable for adventure beds?

Sloping ladders without handrails have serious disadvantage. The danger of an accident is higher because the sloping steps with wide step rungs can lead to typical accidents. If children use such steps they are liable to slip. This danger is particularly apparent if sloping steps are used backwards.  More about accident prevention...

The standard vertical ladder from WOODLAND with gripping handles is, in contrast, a much better choice: a child can easily grip onto the round wooden handles of the ladder than flat steps. If they do slip on the rungs then they can more easily get a firmer grip.

Also daily climbing strengthens and trains the child's muscles more than the comfortable wide rungs on sloping ladders.

GS- und Euro standard for bunk beds inadequate?

Typical bunk bed accident occur when child accidently bumps into another child and falls off the bed because the safety rail is too low. WOODLAND therefore uses guard rails that are 70 cm high (more than double the European standard!). The height of the safety rail can be replaced with a shorter beam when a child reaches a certain age that the bed could be raised to form a loft bed. More about accident prevention...

Tips when you buy a bunk bed

  • Allow only children six years or older to sleep on upper bunks if the guard rail is not high enough.
  • Get your child involved when choosing a bunk bed.
  • Check to make sure that there is no danger of fall.
  • Always choose a bed with guard rails on all four sides.
  • Guard rails are high enough (min. 65 cm above the mattress) to prevent falls.
  • Make sure guard rails are attached to the bed securely.
  • The gap between the lower edge of the guardrails and the upper edge of the bed frame should not be more than 7,5 cm.
  • Make sure that the upper bunk is securely attached to the lower bunk.
  • Bed should have rounded edges and corners.
  • Make sure ladder is attached to the bed. The slide should have high rails along the side to prevent a fall.

... and after your purchase...

  • Make sure the mattress foundation is stable.
  • Attach the bed to the wall at one or both ends of the bed.
  • With bed that are screwed together make sure to retighten screws.
  • Slatt for mattress foundation should be screwed to the bed.

 Assembly .

Which tool do I need to assemble a WOODLAND bunk bed?

For the assembly you need a hammer, a ratchet with size 10 socket and a cross-end screwdriver better yet a cordless screwdriver with changeable head and size 10 attachment.

Is it possible to assemble the bed in mirror-image?

In general all WOODLAND beds can be assembled mirror-image.

Can I hang a climbing rope at the head or foot of the bed (short side of bed)?

You can exchange the rope-support-beam with the top guardrail at the head or foot of the bed. Please note however that the rope-support-beam will be approx. 25 cm lower than usual.

Can I widen the entrance to the raised bed?

Technically it is possible. Although we do not recommend widening the entrance to the bed because it will raise the risk of children falling or rolling out of bed. For children above 6 years of age, the bed can be raised to 150 cm high. In this case the guardrail above the entrance area will be automatically removed so that it is easier for a teenager to climb in and out of bed.

Mattresses / Slatted mattress foundation .

Why slatted mattress foundation?

In general the slatted mattress foundation from Woodland is stable and robust so that it could stand children jumping and playing on the bed. The slatted mattress foundation could hold up to approx. 400 kg.

Can I get other mattress size by WOODLAND?

Standard mattress size is 90x200cm. However other mattress dimensions are available: 90x190cm, 100x200cm and 140x200cm. For further information please contact our friendly customer service at 0049 2133 248 219.

Can I use the mattress that I currently use for a WOODLAND bed?

Our mattresses have optimum firmness, comfort, performance and shape retention that are suitable for WOODLAND mattress foundation. Furthermore our mattresses meet Öko Tex Standard 100.

Compare your mattress with ours and ask yourself whether they comply with our requirements. Take into consideration whether the mattress has good ventilation, temperature regulation, removable cover and high sleeping comfort.

Does the mattress have right thickness?

The safety rails attached to a WOODLAND bed is usually made for mattress thickness 12 cm and 14 cm. Therefore if you wish to have a thicker mattress please do let us know at the time of order so that we could provide you with safety rails that are suitable for other mattress thickness.

 Material .

Low knot content!

WOODLANDs low knot content solid pine or beech timber (first class quality) does not only appear attractive and valuable but guarantees better stability especially against turning pressure e.g. for climbing ropes and hammock seats.

What is the additional profit?

An adventure bed with two sleeping levels consists of 50 metres of beam material e.g. the MONTEREY model. The longest pieces of wood are up to 220cm long and it is therefore easy to understand that the stability of an adventure bed is dependent on the strength of the beams and the resulting size of the contact surfaces connecting them.
In the case of the MONTEREY-adventure bed this alone consists of over 160 contact surfaces, which are connected to one another with the flathead metal screws which leads to greater stability.

Pine or beech?

WOODLAND children's furniture are not only available in pine wood but also in first class solid beech wood. Please see the difference of the grain in the picture attached. The solid pine wood is robust and flexible therefore invulnerable to turning pressure of the rope or children jumping on the bed. The beech wood is also robust and has hard surface and therefore it is invulnerable to denting and other mechanical pressure. Compared to pine wood beech wood has smaller wooden cells which makes it easier for maintenance e.g. making it insensitive to liquid. Although the price of beech is slightly more expensive than pine many parents consider beech wood as an ideal material for adventure beds because of its robust structure. The beech furniture is rarely seen in children's room and this makes WOODLAND beech adventure bed special.

Why not fir wood?

WOODLANDs solid first class pine and beech wood are harder than fir wood. A fir wood has a soft surface and therefore it is usually used by a furniture company which does not place a special emphasis on the quality of furniture. You could easily identify fir wood by doing a "nail test". A fir wood has high knot content, which makes it easier to crack or break. Therefore this type of wood is not suitable for adventure beds.

What kind of advantages does untreated timber have?

Advantage Nr. 1: Untreated wood is ideal for a healthy living environment: The wood can regulate the amount of moisture in the air and bring it to the optimum level. In particular in the winter months when the air conditioning makes the respiratory tract of your children very dry untreated wood surfaces balance out the humidity like a sponge.

Advantage Nr. 2:  The maintainence advantage: It often occurs that a child accidently draws on the furniture e.g. with pen or crayons. Unwanted graffiti or dirty marks can be easily removed with some cleaning tissue, soaked sponge or a vacuum cleaner. One with wax or oil treated upper surfaces can be much more difficult to clean. Coloured marks could leave more stain in the wood with a treated upper surface (oil or wax).

Advantage Nr. 3: The cost and time saving is not to be underestimated. An adventure bed (e.g. CALGARY) consists of more than 50 metres of beam material, which in the case of the upper surfaces must be coated on four sides using many operations. This takes many litres of wax and a great deal of time. However for an extra price we are also able to provide this service for you. Natural varnish, wax or glaze are used for our products.

Advantage Nr. 4:  Untreated wood is easier for childrens hands to grip when climbing and therefore more child friendly.

 Delivery .

No matter where you are the WOODLAND team will advise you the most suitable forwarding agency that is able to deliver quickly and securely even overseas.

The following sections will help to understand the frequent asked questions on the topic delivery service.

What do I have to pay attention on?

When you want to place your order or receive a quotation you should always make sure to inform us your full and correct address. This is important in order to estimate the additional delivery costs, if the delivery is going beyond the German border. WOODLAND covers the delivery cost up to the German border if the value of your order is more than 500 €. Of course the additional cost depends on the scope and the weight of your delivery, as well as the additional distance to your house. If you are living overseas we should also distinguish that there might be a possibility to receive your order via air- or shipping freight. The airfreight is usually faster but also more expensive. Please make sure that you will be able to stay in the house on the given date of delivery and that we receive a telephone number you will be available on. It is sometimes difficult to confirm a certain hour of your delivery when it is to go abroad, but we always ask our delivery agency to give you a call in advance. If the given date of delivery is not convenient for you, please let us know as soon as possible and we will do our best to postpone it to a date that suits you the best.

Is the date of delivery always met?

On your order confirmation (on the upper right hand side) you will find the earliest possible date of delivery. It happens seldom that we are not able to meet the given date of delivery but it could be postponed for a day or two due to traffic, accidents or weather problems. If the date of delivery has to be postponed we will keep you informed as promptly as possible.

How much does the delivery cost?

WOODLAND takes over the deivery cost up to the German border when the total delivery cost is more than 500,- Euro. The delivery cost depends on the weight of your order so please contact us on 0049 2133 248 219.

I live on the third floor. Is the furniture going to be carried up into my flat?

Unfortunately most delivery services do only deliver "to the first door of the house". This means that if you live in an apartment building the first door would be the entrance door of the apartment. The delivery men are not obligated to carry the items up into your floor. Nevertheless our furniture is packed into several individual packages, which are not too heavy for one person to carry.

Do I have to sign a paper when the delivery arrives?

When your ordered products arrive please check if you notice damage on the delivery package, in which case we can assume that the content is also affected. You do not have to open the packages directly but we would rather ask you to note these damage down on the delivery note of the forwarder, so that the insurance will cover the damage and delivery cost. Also, please check carefully if the number of packages you received and the number of packages (collies) indicated on the delivery note is the SAME.

How do I find the construction manuals as quickly as possible within all these packages?

If one of your ordered products is packed into several packages (e.g. an adventure bed) you will find the construction manuals in the package which has a sticker on it saying "Bauanleitung innenliegend" or “Construction Manuals inside”. Please read the whole assembly instructions before you start assembling the bed and follow the details carefully.

What should I do with the packages?

If there is a possibility to keep the packaging we advise you to keep it, because you might need it at a later date, e.g. if you are going to move or if you might want to sell the furniture when you don’t need them any more. The cardboard boxes will take only little space if you cut the tape and fold them.

What should I do if I have further questions?

If you have further questions our customer service is at your disposal and available on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9.00-13.00 o’clock and from 15.00-18.00 o’clock on the telephone number 0049 2133 248 219.
